Forest bathing: walking through the forest, or Shinrin-yoku, reduces stress and enhances immune function. Volatile oils are released from trees and plants, stimulating your body to enhance wellness.

Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness: a practice during which a person observes how the mind wanders, brings attention to his or her breathing, and explores a way to witness one’s life such that increased awareness leads to mastery of challenging situations.  Developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Mindfulness is a technique now used to decrease stress, encourage emotion regulation, decrease addictions, among other things.

Body scan: a practice taught through mindfulness, to increase and deepen awareness of the body.


Sauna: The traditional Latvian Sauna House was a place of cleansing body and soul. The sauna was a cornerstone of Latvian culture for over 2000 years, and the house was used for several purposes. Each farm had a sauna house. From the surrounding land various plants and herbs were gathered, including birch, oak, linden, or juniper twig branches, to make besoms. Besoms were used to rub on the sweating skin, for the medicinal benefits of the plant oils. In Vancouver, saunas are available in various locations, from community centers, to yoga studios – YYoga Dowtown, Chopra Yoga Center – to the retro Finnish Sauna at Hastings Steam & Sauna.
